Hugged, Helped or Heard?

My oldest is losing the love of learning. School subjects are getting harder as she’s getting older. She’d feeling frustrated more often and her attitude overall during school hours is easily making my days harder. I’ve been at a loss how to manage this new stage. Luckily I have a sister who listens and helps me work through my own frustrations and relentlessly helps me with ideas to comfort her, encourage her, help her in a way that she will respond to. After being heard loud and clear by my sister, we came up with an idea!

We started and the change was felt immediately. It wasn’t the hardest day, we both kept our patience pretty well. I’m attributing this to the new system we have implemented and the reminder to us both that our emotions need to be covered well before our learning will kick in. Especially when school (life) gets hard! It’s much easier to move forward when we aren’t stuck in frustration.

I made this sign, printed it and hung it on her computer. When she feels overwhelmed, it’s the first thing she sees. And when I swoop in to help, it’s also the first thing I see!

It’s been so helpful to us, that I thought it might help you as well. HERE’S YOUR SIGN! No really. No really. Print it, hang it, use it!
