Summer Shifts and Hammock Offices

My schedule shifts in the summer. We don’t stop the school routines, the volunteering or the family responsibilities, but I spend a tremendous amount of time outside. Sometimes that means taking the office to the hammocks out back.

I get to work later in the evenings which leaves my mornings open to make memories with the kids or sit on the porch with the dogs. Sunshine and warmth are all I ever want, especially when I can sit near a lake and get my work done. There is a total shift that happens when the sun is out and we are living in it. Right now I am watching my kids splash in the water while I type. When they want a slushy from the shack behind me, you bet your bottom dollar I’m getting that coconut-peach flavor on mine too.

The freedom of longer days makes a massive difference. Who is moving with me somewhere that stays warm all year? I need you all to commit so I can finally convince my family to move!

🦩 Productivity and Presence Coexist

I love the opportunity summer provides. I don’t have to choose between being productive or having quality time. There is enough room in the day for both.

This is why our homeschooling schedule pivots in the summer. We get creative and move the classroom outside. We live in the lessons instead of studying a book under a lamp. It’s better for attitudes, engagement and actual learning. I love exploring national parks, seeing geography in person and hearing birds chirp in real life. We have direct access to science, nature and art all made by God’s hand.

🦩 Systems Make the Freedom Possible

I’m thankful for the systems I have in place for work, family and school. The winter months are for knocking out the big projects so when summer rolls around, the heavy lifting is already done. I love a high-octane work session because it gives me the freedom to coast while the sun is out.

Summer doesn’t slow my business or my family life. It enhances it. From lake days to midday coffee with clients or friends, the rhythm just works because the foundation is solid.

🦩 Final Thoughts

Summer reminds me that life isn’t just about checking boxes. It’s about showing up for the moments that matter for my family, my clients and myself. When systems are in place, freedom isn’t risky. It’s empowering.

I have a challenge for you: take your work outside this week, slow down a little and soak in what the season has to offer. You might find your best work happens when the sun is shining and the world is moving around you.

If you’re ready to build your own seasonal rhythm with direction, let’s chat about strategy and how to make your days work for both your life and your business.
