Motivation gets talked about like it is this constant, loud and energetic thing. People think if you are doing it right, you should wake up inspired every day, ready to conquer your to-do list with a smile and a latte in hand. That is not how it works for me.

When things get tough, I do not rely on motivation. I rely on systems, seasons and self-awareness. I have learned that motivation comes and goes, but habits and preparation are what carry me through the quieter and heavier moments.

🦩 Working Ahead on Purpose

(Because future-me needs to breathe)

One of the biggest ways I stay motivated is by working ahead. Sometimes I am weeks ahead. Sometimes it is months. When the creative juices are flowing, I lean into it hard. I map things out, build the systems, write the content and schedule what I can. I create while the momentum is there so future-me can breathe a little easier.

That margin matters. Working ahead gives me the room to Swing & Sway without anyone really noticing when things aren’t running smooth. It allows me to keep everything moving seamlessly during the seasons when I have a clear mindset so I do not have to force productivity when I don’t. It is not about hustling nonstop. It is about being honest with myself about how and when I actually work best.

If you are a woman- let’s talk about our natural cycles. Men… you don’t want to hear about this one 😉

🦩 Meeting My Needs Instead of Fighting Them

It is not uncommon for me to sit at my computer for 12 or 15 hours a day for seven days in a row. And then just as suddenly, you will see me outside for hours with my kids, completely unplugged. That rhythm works for me.

I do not believe in a perfectly balanced day. I believe in a balanced life overall. Some seasons are for serving. Some seasons are for learning and studying. Some seasons are strictly for rest and recovery. If I tried to balance everything evenly every single day, I would burn out. And burnout is not good for anyone. Motivation stays intact when I stop trying to force myself into a mold that does not fit.

🦩 Reevaluating Instead of Quitting

(Difficulty does not mean failure)

When things get tough, I pause. I do not panic and I do not quit. I reevaluate. I look at my motives and my plans. I ask myself what is still aligned and what needs adjusting. Sometimes the goal stays the same but the path has to change. Sometimes the timeline just needs more grace.

That reevaluation process keeps me motivated because it reminds me that difficulty is usually just refinement. Growth almost always requires adjustment. A Swing & A Sway, right?

🦩 Letting Seasons Be Seasons

I have learned to stop expecting myself to perform the same way year-round. Life has seasons. Business has seasons. Even the earth has seasons for heaven’s sake!

Motivation does not disappear when I recognize that. It actually strengthens. When I give myself permission to rest without the guilt, to study without the pressure and to serve without resentment, I show up better in every role I carry. There is freedom in knowing that slow seasons are not wasted seasons. They are often the ones preparing you for what is next.

🦩 Staying Rooted in Purpose

When things feel overwhelming, I go back to my “why.” I remember why I built a business that fits my life instead of forcing my life to fit a business. I remember why sustainability matters more to me than urgency. I remember that consistency over time always beats quick wins.

Motivation lasts longer when it is tied to purpose instead of pressure. I am not trying to do everything at once. I am building something that lasts.

Also- I am really big on the “WHY” and you if you need to find yours, call me. I’ve helped a lot of people decide which direction is needed in their life by helping them define their why. I have referrals 😉

🦩 Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, motivation is not about pushing harder. It is about working smarter, resting well and knowing when to shift. It is about building systems that support you when your momentum dips. It is about giving yourself permission to change pace without losing your direction.

That is how I stay motivated when things get tough. Not by forcing balance every day, but by creating a life that balances out over time.

What about you? What motivates you to keep going?
