There is a lot that fills my days professionally. But when I strip away the deadlines, the calendars and the client calls, there are specific things that truly fill my cup. These are the things that shape how I think, how I teach and how I actually live.
🦩 First. Being Outside and Exploring
(Where I find my stillness)
I am a sucker for a lake, a hike and a waterfall. Paddle boarding might be my favorite form of solitude. There is something about being alone in the middle of the water that feels unmatched. I know without a doubt that God meets me there every single time.
There is work involved: paddling out further, going against the waves and choosing not to turn back when it would be easier. And then there is the stillness. Laying back, praying and letting my spirit settle. Add in the beauty of it all and I am fully content.
I love seeking out waterfalls. I loathe the winter when it snows, but I know that is the only way we get the water. I love being near the power and the steady sound it creates. The calm I feel there stays with me for a long time. I just love seeing the way water carves its path through the earth and the way life thrives alongside the rivers that follow. So much beauty is found near the water.
Being outside reminds me how small I am and how intentional God’s creation is. It is humbling and it is something I do not take for granted. It is not lost on me how blessed I am to be close enough to explore places people travel from all over the world to see. #thebig5
🦩 Second. The Passion for Education
(My classroom is just a little smaller than I expected)
We don’t homeschool just because we live in the “boonies.” We homeschool because I am deeply passionate about education. Most people don’t know that I actually went to college for early elementary education. Even as a child, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I just didn’t know my classroom would be located in my own home.
Creating curriculum lights me up. Finding creative ways to meet individual needs keeps me engaged. Watching understanding click and confidence grow is one of my favorite things to witness, both with my kids and within my business. I love the wins. Education isn’t static; it is living, breathing and constantly evolving. It is about nurturing curiosity and a love for learning that lasts far beyond childhood. That philosophy carries into everything I do.
🦩 Third. A Life Built on Reading
(Our home is a rhythm of books)
Reading is a way of life in our home. We read to learn, to grow and sometimes just to escape. We have an entire library in our house that my husband built just for us. There are tables for studying, couches for cuddling up and a big comfy chair meant for solo reading. And still, books end up everywhere: on the stairs, on the kitchen counter, in the cars… I’ve even found them in the pantry.
It is not uncommon to find all of us sitting in the same room completely absorbed in different worlds.
The librarian knows us very well. Reading here isn’t about logging twenty minutes a day to check a box. It is a rhythm. It is how we unwind and how we keep curiosity alive.
🦩 Final Thoughts
These passions shape how I show up in the world. They influence how I work, how I create and how I connect with people. They remind me to slow down, look deeper and stay intentional. This is the part of me that exists beyond the business, and honestly, it is the part that makes everything else work.
I would love to hear from you: what are the three things that refill your cup?
