Why I Started A Swing & A Sway

This honestly came together in the most natural way.

I grew up watching my parents build small businesses from the ground up. Marketing started early for me: writing letters, stuffing envelopes and tagging along to vendor shows, networking events and community meetings. I saw what most people never do. I saw the behind the scenes strategy sessions, the late nights, the wins, the mistakes and the exhaustion that followed everyone home.

I answered phones, stocked shelves, went on deliveries and listened to conversations about what worked and what didn’t. From a young age, I understood something critical: marketing was often the make-or-break piece. And it was also the thing that got pushed aside first when customer care, family and day-to-day operations took over.

🦩 Where the Gaps Were Obvious

I watched my family give everything they had. Time. Physical effort. They chipped in together and worked endlessly, but they still faced missed opportunities because marketing simply couldn’t be the priority it needed to be.

Small businesses do not have the luxury of massive budgets like Target or Walmart. They have to reach the right people at the right time in the right place, all while keeping costs low and juggling a thousand responsibilities. Vendors, customers, community involvement, theft… it is a lot. Marketing was the easiest thing to let go of and unfortunately, that is exactly what cost them the income they worked so hard to earn.

🦩 Learning the Hard Way

When I started my own business, I went all in on marketing. It worked and people came through the door, but what I lacked was follow-through. I was constantly restarting instead of building momentum. I saw success in bursts and burned myself out trying to do everything.

Marketing, customer service, vendors, events, training: all of it lived on my shoulders. And the biggest lesson I learned? I could not do it alone.

I had to commit to the parts I was good at and actually enjoyed, then hire out the rest. That shift changed everything. I started bringing in partners, paying experts in areas I didn’t love and networking with other small business owners. I offered help with logos, branding and marketing simply because I enjoyed it and could trade services. And I loved watching other businesses grow.

🦩 When the Hobby Became the Calling

Over time, it became clear: what I was truly passionate about wasn’t just marketing for businesses, but teaching it and building it alongside them. I loved the brainstorming, the consistency and the creativity. No two businesses are the same and that challenge lights me up.

Taglines. Brand voice. Identity. Strategy. I found myself constantly learning, collaborating and refining what worked and why. Without advertising, opportunities kept coming. A logo here. Brand words there. Clients started asking to work with me. At the time, I was still running a different business that wasn’t the right fit for me or my family. To be honest, my kids hated it and they told me so. That admission straight from my kids pushed me to fully build out A Swing & A Sway.

🦩 Why This Work Matters to Me

Working doesn’t feel stressful when you love what you do.

I get to be challenged by my clients’ dreams every single day. Because they dream, I get to live out mine. When they land their first call, first sale or first event, I feel it too. I also know what is happening behind the scenes. The stress. The mistakes. The fear of burnout. The balancing act between business and life. And I know one thing for sure: marketing cannot stop just because you are tired.

That is where I come in.

I am here to keep your brand moving when you need rest. I am here to create and maintain consistency. I help small businesses show up confidently without burning out, losing income or losing sleep. You do not have to do this alone.

🦩 Final Thoughts

A Swing & A Sway exists because I’ve lived both sides. I have lived the hustle and the overwhelm, the passion and the exhaustion. My role is to help you focus on what you love while your brand keeps showing up, seamlessly and intentionally.

So let me ask you this: what is frustrating you right now? What part of your business do you love? And what might be ready to be hired out?

Talk soon,

L
