New Year, New Goals

(With a Little Grace)

Last year I nailed almost all my goals, only missing a few that were ultimately out of my control. That mattered when I sat down to set goals for 2026. This year I’m being more intentional about focusing on what I can control.

Goal setting comes naturally to me. It’s how I’m wired. If I’m not looking forward to something or if my routine isn’t mapped out, I tend to stall. I’m much better at living than sitting idle.

🦩 Adjusting Expectations Without Quitting

This year looks different physically. I’m working through an injury which means slowing down last year’s health progress to avoid re-injury or worse, surgery. Bah! This annoys me more than it probably should 😂

But slowing down doesn’t mean stopping. It just means shifting where growth happens. So less intense workouts, better eating habits and changing some hobbies to better fit my ability with a “hurt wing” as the hubs calls it.

🦩 Letting Kids Lead Their Learning

Homeschooling is getting easier as my kids become more self-directed. This year I want to move beyond just core subjects and dig into hobbies, life skills and curiosity-led learning. Less forcing. More observing. More letting them show me who they’re becoming. This also opens the door for my next goal.

🦩 Expanding Business With Intention

In 2026 I want to expand client openings, offer a wider variety of services and continue learning new skills and platforms. Growth doesn’t always mean doing more at once. Sometimes it means making room to do things better.

My waitlist used to be months long and now I have more availability. That excites me! It means I can support more businesses who are ready to build intentionally and sustainably. 🦩 Redefining Dinner Expectations

I’m officially done making dinner every night. Who’s with me?

Last year I mapped out monthly meals and stuck with it for most of the year. This year I’m planning ahead differently. I’ll be making sauces, cooking and canning meat and freezing meals or meal components in portioned sizes. That way we can eat what we want when we want and I don’t have to cook on busy nights when everyone’s scattered. The one night a week we’re all home? Fine. I’ll cook 🙃

🦩 Choosing Where to Serve

One goal still needs a final decision. Serving at church is one of my favorite things. I loved being involved in multiple areas in 2025 but this year I need to remember that my primary ministry begins at home. I’m prayerfully deciding which ministry is the right fit for 2026.

🦩 Making It Visual and Real

I’ll be adding family goals, refining personal ones and creating a visual representation that actually makes sense to my brain. Once it’s done I’ll share it here. Stay tuned.

🦩 Final Thoughts

Goals don’t have to be rigid to be powerful. They can evolve. They can slow down. They can shift. Progress still counts even when the pace changes. I’m saying this more for me than for you, but it is still true. A Swing & A Sway, right?

Do you set goals? Choose a word? Map out plans for the year or fly by the seat of your pants? I’ve got to know!
