TRAVEL TO SPACE

End of the year testing for my kiddos has thrown me off my curriculum game!

But late is better than never, right?

This week let’s travel OUT OF THIS WORLD!! To space we go! Have you ever practiced “thought science”! It’s a whole new form of entertainment and you get to control what the outer world is like! Cool right? This week we will be focused on Dr. Maggie’s Grand Tour and she’ll teach you all about it!

Here is the list of books for this week!
If you’d like the games and other items I use, please comment or message me. I’ll put a list together for you.

Some fun things to do to expand learning this week:

Art/Math:

🚀 Of course we are creating a solar system model! You can make it simple by using this book, ordering this kit or head to the craft store for supplies to make your own!

🚀 I remember when I was in school, we took a measuring tape and figured out the relative distance between planets and put our models in order outside. You can definitely do this to leave a lasting memory! Here is a great resource to figure the math out.

🚀 And because Art class is a favorite- we are using Karo Syrup, food coloring and paper plates to paint our own version of a planet.

🚀 If you want to explore the moon phases, remember to use Oreos!

🚀 Here is another FREE resource that I used with my kids.

Language Arts:
This can be SO much fun! Not only are we reading a lot of books about space travel, being an astronaut and even jokes about space! We can write our own stories!

🚀 Tell us about your planet- How big is it? Where is it located? Can people live there? What is life like if they do? Remember to answer the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How in your stories!

🚀 Pretend you have an encounter an alien! What is that like? Again, the 5 W’s & How. Add in art with illustrations!

Social Studies/History:

🚀 Watch the moon landing!

🚀 Study the skills/training an astronaut must go through.

🚀 Look up jobs that are available in the “space” industry- Here is a great resource to help you think outside of the box! There are SOOOO many jobs related to space that you may have never thought about.

🚀 Have you ever been to a space museum? Been to an observatory? What about a planetarium? See what is available in your community and attend an event.

Science:

Make a bottle rocket with vinegar and baking soda- I used the scientific method with this lesson- Here is a free printable!
I used water, vinegar and Sprite for the liquids. For the powder, I offered powdered sugar, baking soda and powdered laundry detergent. I let my kids guess what would create a reaction and put what they thought would work into the bottles until we got it right. This was an absolute blast!

That should be a great start! If you’d like to see more ideas, head to my Pinterest Page for Space Travel!

Of course, I’d love to see what you complete!

Talk Soon,
L
