Hey hey! I hope everyone felt loved yesterday. I know Mother’s Day is loaded with mixed emotions for me. Anyway- I’m here to offer more ideas for learning this week! Let’s travel outside of the USA and meet somewhere else in our lands. We are going have our main focus be on history since the rest of the world is RICH in history! Which continent would you like to visit first and in which timeline? Here are some things to help get you started: Of course grab this week’s featured book!
Geography:
✈️ This website is full of fun facts about MANY countries around the world! Take a peek at 3 (or more) countries and learn at least 3 facts you can share!
✈️ Make a map of the main cities in the country in which you found most interesting from your study over at Globe Trottin Kids! You can use this project as your art class too! Draw in lakes, rivers, mountains, animals etc. to fill the whole page with country facts!
✈️ Can you identify world landmarks and place them on a map? Here is a great resource to print and do some research to learn more: https://www.homeschoolshare.com/famous-landmark-worksheets/ This can also help you in your History class!
History:
✈️ Choose a history podcast like Real Cool History for Kids Podcast! Listen and help your family at the same time by doing chores!
✈️ The book of the week has so much information about wars and how borders come about. It is FILLED with history from all over the world! Pick an era or war you’d like to know more about and discover information in those pages. You’ll also touch on Social Studies by reading from this book.
✈️ We love combining subjects! This will cover history, social studies AND language arts! Find a leader from a war of your choosing and find a speech you can listen to from that time. Take notes about the speech and answer these questions: WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHY, WHERE and HOW?
-Who is the speaker and what do you know about him/her? Who are they addressing?
-What was their main point? What is the tone? What reason did they have to give this speech?
-When did they make the speech? Do you have a date or timeline that is relevant to the speech needing to be made?
-Why did they need to address people for this speech?
-Where did this speech take place? A specific place? On TV?
–How would you change what words they used to make the language more relevant for today’s people? Do you think they could improve their speech to make it more effective? If you need a speech, here is one of my favorites by Winston Churchill.
✈️ History/Social Studies and Art: Look at fashion from a country and time period of your choice. Can you recreate this with your current clothes? Can you draw this? Do you know why they wore what they did/do?
ART:
✈️ What type of art is traditional in the country that you chose? Is there a famous artist from your country? Can you recreate something that was created there?
Science/Math:
✈️ Find a traditional food or dessert from the country you chose. Can you make it at home? This should get you a great start! You can also check out my Pinterest page for more ideas. Make sure to follow me there for all the updates!
